Composting at home can be done many ways, with or without high start up costs. It can also be done in small spaces inside or outside.
Mix equal parts of brown and green materials. You do not want to have large pieces of material.
Moisten the materials as you add them so everything will be wet.
Turn your compost pile occasionally to mix the materials and help with even composting.
Make sure the material stays moist, but not too wet to get optimal results.
Backyard composting can be done in a pile or a bin. There are cheap DIY options or more expensive tumbling compost bins. Ideally you want to have your compost bin/pile in a dry, shady spot. Also having it close to a water source is beneficial.
Composting can be done indoors with specially designed compost bins or DIY bins. When composting indoors, make sure you keep up with rotating the contents and keeping an even ratio of materials. If the materials are kept in the correct ratio, composting shouldn’t have a smell or attract pests. This also applies to outdoor composting.
